Garage Door Window Placement

In addition to enhancing the aesthetic of your outer garage door design, windows let natural light filter into the garage. This makes them extra appealing for spaces that aren’t serving as a traditional garage space, such as a sunroom, workshop, or den.

To achieve the best light from garage door windows, Precision Door’s garage door specialists recommend placing them in the top third of your door’s design.

Garage Door Window Formats

Garage door windows come in two main formats. The first is glass panels that are built directly into the garage door. This option is great for traditional homes or owners with a distinct design in mind that draws on elements of other windows in the home.

The second is a glass panel with overlay inserts that can be changed in and out. Window inserts for garage doors come in a huge array of shapes and patterns and easily snap securely into place overtop the window glass. We recommend inserts for modern homes and exteriors. You can keep them the same or change them out seasonally or whenever you want a new look.

Customization Features

Customization features of the actual window panel or insert is where the fun really begins. While square and rectangular windows are the standard, shaking up your window shape by choosing an arched, hexagonal, diamond, or multi-block design can make a bold, style-forward statement.

You can also change up the type of glass that the window is made of. Choosing a frosted or etched effect is a good choice for homeowners who want an added level of security or those who choose to position windows lower than the top section of the door.
